Are you a new mom who wants to develop a good skincare routine for your baby? Babies already have smooth and soft skin, but sometimes you need to take extra care of them so their skin does not get dry or damaged. A baby’s skin is very delicate and sometimes they can also develop baby rash on face and even other parts of their body, along with other skin conditions. Therefore, it is important to choose the right skincare products for them. In this blog, we’ll guide you on how to choose the right skincare products for your little one!
Lotions & Moisturizers
Baby lotions are good for moisturizing baby skin as most of them are hypoallergenic, which means that they are likely not going to irritate baby skin. Massage your baby’s whole body after giving them a bath with a good lotion or moisturizer. When the skin is a bit damp, the moisturizer is absorbed more easily into the skin and is more effective. This will also prevent dryness and baby rash on their skin as water can be drying at times.
Look for ingredients in your baby’s skincare products which do not have nuts or any other allergic ingredients in them which may cause allergic reactions in babies. Try to go for skincare products which have organic ingredients because they are natural and less likely to cause irritation to baby skin. It is best to choose fragrance-free products because fragrance can promote irritation in baby skin.
Do not use moisturizers intended for adult skin because these may be too harsh for your baby’s skin and may cause baby rash on face and body. However, if your baby’s skin has rash or is irritated then you should consider medicated lotions or advanced treatment lotions. Visit a doctor for prescription if the skin condition of your baby persists.
Soaps & Shampoos
Use gentle shampoos when bathing your babies. This is important because the wrong shampoo can give your baby dry scalp or cradle cap which are scalp conditions which can be extremely irritating for babies. Wash your baby’s hair every 2-3 days with a gentle alcohol-free shampoo which does not have sulphates in it as they are damaging to hair and skin both. Rinse your baby’s hair thoroughly with water to wash away residual shampoo because that is often a factor in baby rash on face and dryness in baby skin.
Soaps can be drying for baby skin and can cause baby rash on face so try to use them sparingly. Use formulas which have neutral detergents in them and avoid fragrances since they can cause irritation.
Sunscreens are essential for infants and adults alike. The UV rays of the sun can be very harmful for the delicate skin of infants, therefore using sunscreen as a protective layer for the skin is a must. Babies who are 6 months old and above should wear a sunscreen with SPF 30 and contains titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. In addition to sunscreen, it is important to keep your baby covered under the sun with hat and fuller-coverage clothing so that the UV rays do not harm their skin.
We hope this has helped you understand skincare products for babies a little better. No matter what product you’re looking for, keep in mind that a baby’s skin is not able to tolerate as much as an adult’s can. So, choose wisely!
